In the movie, we see both Phil and Peter using their power to manipulate. Phil uses his brute masculine power while Peter uses his cold, calculative power. But both of them justify their cunning approach because their motivation is to rescue the person they love. 

The title of the movie is taken from Psalm 22:20 where David is crying out to God to rescue him from his enemies. But the type of power that he is calling out to is of a qualitatively different kind.
