Kotthu brings to the fore moral struggles and ideological indoctrination, as well as the larger theme of evil. Through the course of the film, one sees the two protagonists diverge in their paths, as one continues on the road of revenge, destruction, and loss, while the other realises the gravity of his actions and grapples with the consequences. In the end however, it is observed that only non-violence and love can overcome hate and evil.
